Not sure which size is right for you? This guide explains what our sizes mean, how to visualise them in your space, and how to choose the best fit for your home or as a gift.

📏 How We Measure Our Kokedamas

Each kokedama is measured by the diameter of the moss ball — the sphere of soil and moss that forms the base of the plant. This does not include the plant foliage above it, which will vary naturally between individual plants.

When reading our product listings, you'll see the moss ball diameter listed under "Size." The overall height of the plant (moss ball + foliage) is also listed where applicable, though this can vary as the plant grows.

🌿 Our Size Categories

Small — approx. 8–10 cm diameter

Best for: Desks, windowsills, shelves, and small side tables.
Ideal plant types: Mini ferns, baby pothos, air plants, succulents.
Gift suitability: Perfect as a thoughtful personal gift — compact and easy to care for.
Visual reference: Roughly the size of a large orange or tennis ball.

Medium — approx. 12–15 cm diameter

Best for: Coffee tables, bathroom ledges, bookcase displays, office desks.
Ideal plant types: Peace lilies, pothos, small ficus, spider plants.
Gift suitability: Our most popular gift size — makes a real statement without overwhelming a space.
Visual reference: Roughly the size of a large grapefruit or softball.

Large — approx. 18–22 cm diameter

Best for: Floor displays, statement corners, dining tables, large shelving units.
Ideal plant types: Monstera, ferns, larger ficus varieties, umbrella plants.
Gift suitability: A striking, luxurious gift for special occasions.
Visual reference: Roughly the size of a cantaloupe or large bowl.

Extra Large — approx. 25 cm+ diameter

Best for: Statement floor pieces, entryways, large living spaces, commercial settings.
Ideal plant types: Larger tropical plants, statement ferns, mature monstera.
Gift suitability: A truly show-stopping gift or centrepiece.
Visual reference: Larger than a football — a genuine centrepiece plant.

📐 Choosing the Right Size for Your Space

For shelves and windowsills

We recommend Small or Medium sizes. These fit comfortably on standard UK shelving (typically 25–30 cm deep) and won't crowd the space around them.

For coffee tables and side tables

A Medium is the sweet spot — it has presence without dominating the table. If you have a large coffee table, a Large can look beautiful as a centrepiece.

For floor displays

Large or Extra Large sizes work best. Pair with a ceramic or concrete tray to protect your floor and complement the aesthetics.

For hanging displays

Small and Medium sizes are best suited for hanging. Larger kokedamas become heavy when wet and are better displayed on a surface.

🎁 Choosing the Right Size as a Gift

If you're unsure, go Medium. It's our best-selling size for a reason — it's versatile, visually impactful, and manageable for most people to care for regardless of their experience level.

If you know the recipient has a lot of space, or you want to make a real impression, step up to a Large.

If it's for a desk, bedroom shelf, or you want something that travels well, a Small is a charming and practical choice.

🪴 A Note on Natural Variation

Because every kokedama is handmade, sizes are approximate and may vary slightly between individual plants. The moss ball is shaped by hand, so it's naturally organic in form — not a perfect sphere. We do our best to ensure consistency, and all sizes fall within the ranges listed above.
